While a lot of the basics are there, seasoned building-sim fans will notice it lacking a lot too. Welcome to the monthly King under the Mountaindev update This month sees Alpha 7 released (as of yesterday) which is the single largest update of the game so far The main part of development for this alpha was extending the calculation and rendering of water flow into channels and pipes that can be dug by the player. It's largely like a mix of RimWorld and Dwarf Fortress, that really is the easiest way to explain it, although it doesn't (yet) have the depth of either but it's initial showing is thoroughly promising and reminds me of the early days of both aforementioned games.
